Traffic School / Safe Driving
Academy

Manatee County Safety Council offers a variety
of "safe driving" courses in our classrooms, online, video and by workbook. Our
classes are designed to promote safety by improving driving skills,
increase accident avoidance and correct negative driving habits that will
eventually lead to motor vehicle accidents.
Live courses are offered at regular intervals
throughout the month, or by workbook and online 24/7 for your additional
convenience.
Basic Driver Improvement (BDI)

You must complete a basic driver
improvement course (Traffic Collision Avoidance Course) if you want to
retain your driver license in the following circumstance:
-
you were a driver in a crash and are found at
fault and someone was transported to the hospital
or
-
you receive a ticket for a non-criminal moving
violation, and you do not hold a commercial driver license
you may elect to attend a basic driver
improvement course in lieu of points on your driving record.
In some cases, you may choose to attend a
basic driver improvement course to receive insurance discounts. This
discount is solely at the discretion of your insurance company.
Advanced Driver Improvement (ADI)

If your driver license was suspended in
the state of Florida for points or as a habitual traffic offender (non-DUI
related), or by court order, you must complete an advanced driver
improvement course *prior to reinstatement.
Note: If you hold a Florida driver license and
receive a ticket for a moving violation in Arizona, the state of Arizona
may withhold adjudication if you complete a state-approved advanced driver
improvement course.
8 Hour Intermediate and Advanced Classroom

Several counties in Florida—including Broward and Miami/Dade— allow motorists to
attend traffic school twice in one year. For individuals who have been granted
this great opportunity, we are pleased to offer our 8-Hour Intermediate Driver
Improvement course. In certain other cases, drivers may be ordered to attend by
a judge or the courts; check your court papers to confirm that this is the class
you need.
The Advanced Classroom course is intended for drivers who have been ordered by a judge to attend
because they exhibit signs of aggressive driving behavior, such as: accumulating an
excessive number of citations, driving with excessive speed, or unknowingly driving
with a suspended license. Check your court papers to confirm that this is the class
you need.
Note: Our 8-Hour Intermediate Course will not satisfy the "Unknowingly Driving While
License Suspended" course requirements. If you need a course that will fulfill those
needs you must take the Advanced Classroom course.
Traffic Law & Substance Abuse Education

If you have never held a regular driver
license in any state, country, or jurisdiction, you must complete a
Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education course before applying for a
temporary driving permit (restricted driver license) in the state of
Florida.
If you are under 21 years old and receive a
notice of suspension for driving with a BAL of .02 to .05, you must
complete a Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education course in order to
reinstate your driver license on a hardship basis.
